Bring Your Idea to Life

Logline AI. Winner of The Spark Award. Received funding. Launched in February 2023, while most of the industry was still deciding whether GenAI was a fad. In the hands of users generating pitch decks right after.

How did this happen? And why did we do this? When I co-founded Logline AI with Paul Gibler and Patrick McAnneny, the vision was as clear as day.

I wanted technology to level the playing field for filmmakers. I wanted to give my friends in creative arts, people brimming with ideas and stories they are passionate about, a way to bring them to life.

The problem is that doesn't happen for most of us. Most of our ideas die. They die because we don't have access to the money. We don't have the right connections. We have ideas or stories that the powers that be would not approve.

I dealt with that and I hated it with a passion. I hated watching countless amazing filmmakers, myself included, unable to bring things to life that weren't just exciting for viewers, but meaningful as well.

At the time I knew tech because I used technology all the time and had been part of various transformations, but I wouldn't have considered myself a tech person. But when you care about something so deeply, and you see so much opportunity in it, you find a way to learn. For me, I learned how to run a tech startup with my incredible friends and co-founders, Paul and Patrick.

Things like the ChatGPT API for narrative generation with GPT for control, Stable Diffusion for images, a React/Next.js front end deployed on Vercel with a unique website link for each deck made, plus an editor layer for user iteration. Hosted on AWS, Stripe set up with Firebase, all run through GitHub. Normally my eyes would go crosseyed on this stuff. But as you learn as a filmmaker... when the passion to do something special burns in your soul, you do it.

That belief in doing something special is what got us recognized, got people to use our platform, and brought us amazing mentorship and support from Ziyaad Bhorat, Holly Willis, Charles Sims, Liam Spaeth, and many others. Creatives supported us constantly because they knew we weren't making something to ride a wave. It came from the heart. They talk about "Founder Mode" in tech, and to me, founder mode is when you have a story that other people believe in, and you believe in yourself.

I bring this up now because I'm involved in a number of projects and conversations at the frontier of AI, media, tech, and creative arts. The kind that call on us to achieve things that have never been done before. Thinking about that these past few weeks is why I wanted to talk about where this journey of mine came from.

"Bring Your Idea to Life." That was our Logline AI tagline. It's why I went down this path, and it's what will carry this exciting journey wherever it goes next.
